What’s in these numbers

Each total is a typical job, priced the way a contractor’s estimate is priced:

  • A new storm door of the grade shown, hung on the existing entry door’s frame with its closer and hardware, with the old one taken off.
  • Overhead and profit: 20%, the standard markup on a contractor’s estimate.
  • Sales tax on the materials, at the state’s average rate.

Not in them: repairing a rotted frame, brick mold or sill, a new entry door, a non-standard size, and permits.

Basic, mid-range or upgraded

The three totals are three price points for the door itself. Between two storm doors, compare what the box lists: the frame material, the glass and screen panels, the closer and the lock.

What moves the price

  • Grade. Each step up costs more for the door itself.
  • The opening. A storm door mounts to the entry door’s frame; an out-of-square or rotted frame needs work first.
  • Size. Doors outside the standard sizes cost more or are made to order.
  • Where you live. Pick your state in the box above.
