What’s in these numbers

Each total is a typical job, priced the way a contractor’s estimate is priced:

  • A new built-in dishwasher of the grade shown, set in the existing opening and connected, with the old one taken out.
  • Overhead and profit: 20%, the standard markup on a contractor’s estimate.
  • Sales tax on the materials, at the state’s average rate.

Not in them: running a new water supply, drain or circuit where there was no dishwasher before, cutting a cabinet to make an opening, and permits.

Replacing or adding

These totals swap a dishwasher for a new one in the same opening, where the water, drain and power are already there. Adding a dishwasher to a kitchen that never had one is a bigger job: a cabinet comes out to make the opening, and the supply line, drain connection and circuit are new.

What moves the price

  • Grade. Each step up costs more for the unit itself.
  • A first install. A new opening, water line, drain and circuit are work of their own.

The dishwasher leaked under the floor. What else is there?
