What’s in these numbers
Each total is a typical job, priced the way a contractor’s estimate is priced:
- A vanity with a cultured marble or solid surface top, priced by the foot of width, with the old vanity taken out.
- Overhead and profit: 20%, the standard markup on a contractor’s estimate.
- Sales tax on the materials, at the state’s average rate.
Not in them: the faucet, new supply lines or drain parts, moving plumbing, a mirror or light, backsplash tile, and wall or floor repair behind the old vanity. The bathroom remodel cost guide prices the whole room.
What moves the price
- Width. Vanities are priced by the foot: a 72 inch double costs more than a 30 inch single.
- The top. Granite, marble and engineered stone tops cost more than cultured marble or solid surface.
- Grade. Higher-grade and custom vanities cost more per foot.
- Plumbing. Moving the drain or adding a second sink for a double vanity adds a plumber’s work.
- Where you live. Pick your state in the box above.
