Download the template

  • Invoice template, PDF: one Letter page to print and fill in by hand, or fill in on a tablet.
  • Invoice template, Excel: type the quantities and unit prices, and each line’s amount, the subtotal, overhead and profit, tax, total and balance due work themselves out. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers.

Both are free, with no sign-up. For the price before the work, the estimate template matches it line for line.

From the estimate to the invoice

The cleanest invoice copies the signed estimate’s lines: the same descriptions, units and prices, with the quantities as built. Anything added along the way goes on as its own line, matching a signed change order. On a job billed in stages, each invoice shows the total, the payments to date and the balance.

When the estimate is written in BluMatrix

BluMatrix writes the estimate line by line at current prices for the ZIP code, with overhead, profit and tax, and the client signs it online. Those signed lines are the ones the invoice bills.

Common questions

Is the invoice template free?

Yes. Both the PDF and the Excel sheet are free to download and use, with no sign-up.

What’s the difference between an estimate and an invoice?

An estimate is the expected price before the work; an invoice is the bill for work done, or a stage of it. The estimate template guide covers the estimate.

Should an invoice show overhead and profit?

It should match the estimate the client signed: as its own line if the estimate shows it that way, or built into the unit prices.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the Excel file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets; the sums keep working.
