What a photo app has to do on a job

Job photos are proof: of the damage before work starts, of what was done, and of the finished job. A photo app earns its place when the photos land on the right job without sorting, carry the date and place, and turn into something you can send: a report, a before-and-after, a page the client or the carrier can read.

BluMatrix

Take the photos and say what you see. BluMatrix writes the photo report from it, ready to send, in the same app that measures the rooms on the phone, measures the roof from the address, and writes the estimate line by line at current prices for the ZIP code. The estimate goes out as a PDF the client signs online, or as an ESX file that opens in Xactimate.

Best for: contractors and restoration crews who want the photos, the report and the estimate from one visit.

CompanyCam

CompanyCam files photos and video under projects, with tags, annotations, before-and-afters, reports, daily logs, checklists and signatures. It runs on iPhone and Android and captures offline, syncing when the phone is back online. Plans start with Core at $63 a month billed yearly for one user, with Crew at $119 for three users and more users at $29 each.

Best for: companies whose main need is an organized photo record shared across crews.

Manifold

Manifold keeps photos on a project timeline with tags, comments and annotations. Its Photo plan is $16 a user a month; Photo + Scan, at $24, adds 3D scans from video and floor plans. A free trial tier has limited usage.

Best for: small crews who want photos and scans priced by the user.

Projul

Projul is construction management software: leads, estimating, scheduling and invoicing, with photos and documents organized by project. Starter is $199 a month billed yearly for up to three users.

Best for: companies that want photos inside an all-in-one project management system.

OpenSpace

OpenSpace captures a jobsite with any device, from phones to 360° cameras and drones, and compares site conditions with the design model. It’s priced by quote.

Best for: builders who want a visual record of the whole site, compared with the design.

Common questions

Is there a free construction photo app?

Manifold has a free trial tier with limited usage, and CompanyCam offers a free trial.

Can a photo app write the report?

Several do. CompanyCam builds reports from a project’s photos, Manifold turns video into a report, and BluMatrix writes the photo report from what you say as you take the photos.

Do construction photo apps work offline?

CompanyCam captures without service and syncs later, as its pricing page notes. Check each app’s own page for the others.
